Frequent Questions

We understand that no two jobs are the same and that you might have questions about synthetic vs. teak. We've done our best to answer some of the most common ones here.

  • How long does it take to deck my boat?

From 2 days for a small job to several weeks for a larger boat. It very much depends on the complexity of the build and how many boats we're working on. We can give you an estimated delivery when you order.

  • Can I view your previous work?

Yes of course. Check out Our Work where we add new boats all the time.

  • What payment terms do you offer?

We always take a deposit of 50% when you make you're order before we can start building. We then invoice the balancing 50% when we've completed the deck. We accept Credit / Debit cards, UK Direct Debits or Cash.

  • Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

Yes. The Permateek carries a 5 year guarantee. We also offer a 5 year guarantee on the workmanship.

  • Do you do urgent jobs?

Yes of course we do. Just let us know and we'll work with you to deliver to your dates.

  • Can I fit it myself?

Yes you can. The DIY route usually means you send us some templates to build the deck panels from then we'll send you the completed panels, glue and instructions on how to fit it to your boat.

  • Can I just get you to fabricate it?

Yes you can. Several of our customers choose to fit themselves. However the workmanship guarantee is a little more limited then.

  • How long does it last?

Permateek has been building decks for 13 years, David's been doing it for 9 years and as Elite Marine for 6 years. All these decks still look great.

  • How do you clean it?

The best way is just with some mild soapy water and a stiff deck brush. You can also safely use a jet/pressure washer. More detailed care instructions are in our cleaning and maintenance guide.

  • How well does it wear?

It wears very well. Even in high foot fall areas it looks great. Eventually it can loose a little of its texture but a quick sand with 40 grit wet and dry will bring it right back.

  • Does it stain?

Permateek is a non-porous PVC material and so doesn't stain easily. It will usually wipe clean. Worst case you can sand it with 40 grit wet and dry or we can even replace small sections in worst case.

  • How much does it cost?

All our decks are custom built. If you send us some photos and rough measurements on our get a quote page then we can give you a very accurate estimate.

  • What colours do you do?

We do more than 10 different colours with 3 different caulking colours. We also have 3 different shades of multi-colour decking which best replicates the slight variations in shade / colour that you find in real teak.

  • What if I have teak already?

We can still help. If you have some deck, be it real teak or another synthetic, then we can usually match well with one of our many colours. Alternatively, if your existing deck is in poor condition, we also offer removal, repair and then fit for your new Permateek deck.

  • What regular maintenance does the deck need?

Very little. We recommend you just keep it clean by rinsing it and using soapy water.

  • Can I have it in my house?

Yes absolutely. We've done several balcony's and bathrooms. We offer a water based clear satin sealant that we recommend for any internal applications.
